January 2007

January 16th - Hey, we’re back!!

We have a lot to catch up on and to bring you all up to speed with, but first a fishing report, as we did manage to get out on Sunday.

We were only back on the island a few days, the weather was great and Jeff and crew wanted to get offshore and do some fishing, so we headed out, on Sunday, to Challenger Bank in search of some action. We started out on the Edge with a little luck, catching a small Wahoo after only fishing for 15 minutes - not a bad start!

Upon arriving on Challenger and hearing that fishing was very slow up and down the eastern and southern side, I decided to make a right turn and head up the northern side. Well, luck was with me because it did not take long for us to bag our second Wahoo and we soon had a double hookup. We kept picking at the Wahoo’s until noon and then decided to switch gears and try our luck for some Tuna’s.

By 2.30 p.m., we had 3 nice Yellowfins on board and we decided to call it a day, a very good day actually!  With a final tally of 8 Wahoo & 3 Yellowfin!

Now, to bring you up to speed on the “De Mako” crew!

Some last minute changes on our plans and we did not take ‘De Mako” to San Sal in hunt for the Big Wahoos (That will have to wait until next time!).  What we have done is bought two more boats to add to Bermuda’s tour business!

We have purchased a 57’ head boat, the “Jolly Roger”, that will operate on a per head basis Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, offering two half-day reef fishing trips down the north channel. These trips will be all light tackle release fishing, catering to family fun fishing. The remainder of the week, the “Jolly Roger” will be available for private charter, inshore and offshore, fully equipped for Wahoo, Tuna and Marlin fishing!

Our second purchase is the very luxurious 73’ motor yacht, the “Cortina”.  The “Cortina” will be offering a level of service in the cruise industry that has not yet been seen in Bermuda!  “De Mako will remain very busy, terrorising the fish!

Many thanks for all your support in the past years. Pete & I are looking forward to seeing you all in the coming season!
